PTF'S NFL WEEK 12 TOP 5

Drew Brees New Orleans Saints MVP Race NFL Rankings Week 12

#1 New Orleans Saints

Drew Brees gaining MVP traction as his Saint's are proving to be one of the NFL elite.

#2 Los Angeles Rams

The Rams came out on top in last Mondays shootout with the Chiefs, securing the number two spot for their bye week.

#3 Kansas City Chiefs

Mahommes and the Chiefs came up just short in LA on Monday, but they put on a show locking down the #3 spot in our power rankings.

#4 New England Patriots

Tom Brady has the Patriots near the top of the NFL, per usual. Even through all the talk of aging, Brady continues to get the job done.

#5 Chicago Bears

Don't look now but the Bears are 8-3 and atop of the NFC North. Chicago can that the play of their QB Mitch Trubisky  and the incompetence of Jon Gruden, who gave the Bears Khalil Mack at the beginning of the season. Trubisky could miss some time, but as of now the Bears are in a good spot.

Outside Looking In

Los Angeles Chargers (8-3) Pittsburgh Steelers (7-3-1) Houston Texans (Play Tonight vs Tenn) (7-3*)

Playing The Field #2 - Sunday In Sports

Lebron Drops 51 in Miami

As we were talking about Lebron and the Lakers hitting their stride on Playing The Field #2, The King was out here getting BUCKETS. Lebron goes 6/8 from deep and the Lake Show win 113-97.

Alex Smith Breaks his leg 33 years after Theismann

The similarities are astonishing. Thirty-three years ago to the day, then Redskins Quarterback Joe Theismann dropped back to pass and was sacked by Lawrence Timmons, the premeir pass rusher in the NFL. Theismann's leg was terribly broken, as can be seen in the infamous video clip. Alex Smith dropped back to pass this past Sunday and was sacked by JJ Watt, the premier pass rusher in the NFL. Smith's leg was terribly broken. Coincidence or bad voodoo?

Still Don't Know Who Zion Williamson is?

Zion and the Duke Blue Devils have been turning heads in the NCAA. Get to know the future NBA superstar and see where he comes from in this video from Ballislife.

We had to go back and switch out Rashaad Penny for Phillip Lindsay. I wont go get his stats retroactively, but having Penny over Lindsay was an egregious mistake on my part. The man's getting the job done in Denver, my bad.  P Lind #5

NFL STANDINGS AND PLAYOFF PICTURE

PTF Top 5

New Orleans Saints (7-1) - Drew Brees is now the all-time leader in passing yards and passing TD's, Alvin Kamara is hitting stride at a critical juncture, and Michael Thomas continues to dazzle with 12 receptions 211 yards a TD and incredible cell phone celebration tribute to former Saints WR Joe Horn in the Saints 45-35 victory over the previously undefeated Los Angeles Rams.

L.A. Rams (8-1) - The Los Angeles Rams suffered defeat for the first time in the 2018-2019 season. Concerns with the defense are exaggerated however, as the Rams have been able to maintain their spot atop of the NFC West withouth the services of their top two cornerbacks Aquib Talib and Marcus Peters. Jared Goff and Brandin Cooks also rekindled some of their magic. as Cooks hauled in 6 balls for 114 yards and a score. No need to worry for Rams fans.

Kansas City Chiefs (8-1) - Kansas City strolled into First Energy Stadium on Sunday and did what was expected in their 37-21 victory over the Browns. Patrick Mahomes is the MVP front runner for good reason, adding 375 yards and 3 touchdown tosses to his already stellar season. Cleveland natives Kareem Hunt and Travis Kelce seemingly enjoyed their homecoming game, totaling 5 TD's (Hunt 3 Kelce 2) in the win.

New England Patriots (7-1) - What can be said about Tom Brady that hasn't already been stated? The answer is he has a top 5 receiver for the first time since Randy Moss. Josh "Flash" Gordon caught 5 passes for 130 yards and a TD, all while dealing with a dislocated finger. We almost gave "Flash" a Golden Lighter Award, but we didn't want him getting any bright ideas. If Gordon can keep up the production every football fan knows he's capable of, the sky is the limit for the dynamic duo.

Carolina Panthers (6-2) - Cam Newton is in the midst of arguably his greatest season as a pro. Which should be scary to the rest of league, considering the emergence of Christian Mcaffery and Curtis Samuel out of the backfield. Solid defense, 3 homerun threats, and a 6-2 record is enough to secure the Panthers a spot in the PTF Top 5.

PTF POTW - Josh Gordon

The Playing The Field player of the week goes New England Patriots Wide Receiver Josh Gordon. There were more impressive stat lines around the league, but Josh's perseverance through tribulation earns him POTW honors.

#1 Alabama Crimson Tide

Nick Saban again proves that Alabama is the team to beat in college football with a 29-0 win over LSU. Behind the Heisman like play of QB Tua Tagovailoa, the Tide have a firm hold of the #1 spot.

#2 Clemson Tigers

Clemson keeps the #2 spot coming off of their 77-16 destruction of Florida State. The Tigers and newly anointed QB Trevor Lawrence will take on #22 Boston College this weekend. Got that Sunshine, Remember The Titans look going on, doesn't he?

#3 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Brian Kelley continues to push all the right buttons as Notre Dame held off a pesky Northwestern team 31-21. If the Irish win out, their early head to head matchup with Michigan could be their saving grace having played a weaker schedule than most.

#4 Michigan Wolverines

Devin Bush Michigan Wolverines Defense Jim Harbaugh NCAA CFP Rankings

The Michigan Wolverines behind Jim Harbaugh and a ridulously talented defense have been one of the most impressive football teams in the nation as of late. Coming off of a statement 42-7 victory over Penn State, Michigan figures to be in position to make the CFP for the first time.

#5 Georgia Bulldogs

QB Jake Fromm Georgia Bulldogs CFP Rankings Heisman

The Bulldogs of Georgia defeated previously ranked #9 Kentucky 34-17 this past weekend, basically ensuring themselves a crack at Alabama for the SEC title. If the Bulldogs manage to defeat the Crimson Tide, it's hard to see them not jumping over the aforementioned Wolverines. QB Jake Fromm continues to garner attention and Georgia is in a good spot heading down the stretch.

#6 Ohio State Buckeyes

Dwayne Haskins Ohio State Buckeyes Urban Meyer CFP rankings Urban Meyer

The Buckeyes haven't looked themselves over the past few weeks, getting blown out by the Boilermakers of Purdue and then just hanging on to beat lowly Nebraska 36-31. That however didn't stop us from ranking OSU higher than most would. With "The Big Game" looming, Ohio State could find it's path redemption with a victory over the surging Wolverines.
